Gruden will never coach college football for one reason, he hates recruiting. He says he hates going into a home and begging some kid he has never met and doesn't know to come play ball for him, and six months later the kid is in trouble. If he didn't come to Tennessee he sure isn't going to Miami.

Sort of but not really, that issue won't be fixed till they figure out how to get a true home field. Heck the sorry arse OB was better than what they use now, at least it was in the vicinity of the school.i still dont think Miami can pay $5 million a year for a coach, but that does fix the issue of the facilities.

Chalk Talk may have been cancelled because of the rumors that he is going to replace Singletary, but its all rumors. Who knows what is really happening.

miami doesnt have a whole lot going for them right now, aside from the most rich local talent base in the country.
that alone will get a big name coach there, but i just cant see a school with that much known financial problems signing a coach that demands more tha 3-4 million a ayear.
the gus malzahan/kirby steele combo would be ideal, but thatll never work. why would malzahan leave AU (i heard he hates it, but miami is a step down right now), or steele live UA for a non-HC job?
you cant get em both, and i bet miami gets one of the two.
richt is not leaving UGA, Gruden is not coming there (too much $$s anyway), Leach? im not sold on him, but miami may be.

I'm just gonna lay back on this and be silent since everything I've shared so far has been 2nd/3rd/4th guessed. I've got more info, but I'm keeping it to myself until this all shakes out.

so because something questions the fact that a proven NFL coach is gonna come coach at place whos stadium is at best half full and get paid less than $5mil a year at a place that has struggled financially, you get all sissy.
the facility donation had just happened, you cant expect non-Miami fans to know that. thats a big deal, and part of the reason I found it hard to believe that Miami could pay $5 million a year on a coach. Honestly, you keep getting mad, but I just have a hard time believing that Miami is gonna make a commitment to a coach for more than $4 million a year plus a buyout. Its not an insult, its just facts. Miami has never been financially flush since the early 2000's, and thats a lotta money for a private school to shell out.
as everyone knows, its all rumors right now. they have not hired a new coach, and Gruden already turned them down. no need to be like that, its all speculative right now.

apparently, Mark Schlabath, Tony Barnhardt, and the rest of the guys on the CSS show also believe that Miami has financial problems. When discussing the Miami situation, every panel member mentions that Miami is a place with limited funds and will not be able to hire a $4 mil a year coach.
In fact, Schlabath and i think Barnhardt, as soon as the Miami coaching search came up, said "they dont have any money".
so I guess im not the only person on the planet who was absolutely shocked to believe that Miami was gonna pay out $4 million a year

Let me ask a question and for those who have a little more insight on this guy tell me why he hasn't been offered a head job.
Eddie Gran, I know he is a special teams coach/RB coach (also coached at Miami in 90) but why hasn't he ever moved up in the ranks? He is a dang good recruiter especially in South Florida, his ties are tremendous down there. I recall when he was here with us for 1 year he was getting kids right and left to come to Knoxville for visits when no one else could. I know some people are lifetime position or assistant coaches but seems like he is a pretty bright guy whom is well respected and always does well in home with the kids/parents.
I know most guys hired are previous head coaches or OC/DC's so maybe that is why I don't know. What do some of you think? I am only going off the things he did at Auburn/Tennessee but maybe he doesn't desire to be a head coach who knows, just a thought.

"Sources have told CaneSport that details are being hammered out and, barring a last minute glitch, Jon Gruden will be the next Miami coach."
"There he goes, one of Gods own prototypes. Some kind of high powered mutant never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die"
